SOUNZ Community Commission

The SOUNZ Community Commission is made available through the generosity of an anonymous donor and the project is administered by SOUNZ Centre for New Zealand Music.

The SOUNZ Community Commission aims to bring together New Zealand professional composers and community groups to create and perform a new work. It was established in 1999 and has resulted in works for diverse groups such as recorder choir, experimental sound artists and children’s theatre.

The commission consists of a grant of $1,800, which is awarded to a professional composer to enable them to engage with a community group he/she has not worked with before. The aim is to support a collaborative process between the composer and a community group and to create a series of resources based on the experiences of the two parties involved. A further $1000 is available for the successful group to hold a public performance or concert for the resulting work.
