AYO 2013 Fanfare Competition

In 2013, AYO is continuing their commitment to supporting emerging New Zealand composers with a fanfare competition. AYO encourages anyone age 28 or younger, in particular high school students, to enter and use their work for their portfolio of assessments. The winning work will open the 65th anniversary concert at the Auckland Town Hall on 20 October 2013, also featuring Glazunov Solennelle Overture and Mahler Symphony No.1 ‘Titan’. The winning composer will also receive complimentary tickets to the performance, a high quality concert recording and $250.

The Esoterics’ Polyphonos 2013-2014 Competition

The Esoterics announces its international call for a cappella choral scores in its annual competition for choral composition, POLYPHONOS. Each winning composer will receive a commission from The Esoterics to compose a new choral work that will be premiered by the ensemble in 2014. In addition to this commission, each winner will receive $1000) US, along with airfare and lodging so that they can attend the Seattle premiere of their commissioned work. There will be up to three POLYPHONOS awards.

VI° Destellos Competition 2013

The Foundation Destellos, call for works for the sixth Competition of Electro-acoustic Composition and Visual Music, open to composers and artists of any nationality, age and gender. The objectives of this competition are the promotion and development of the artistic creation in relation with new technologies. Likewise, it is an intention of the Foundation Destellos to stimulate the creativity of the young generations of artists and to provide them new routes of diffusion of their works. With the intention to offer new possibilities to the creators, the Foundation Destellos will attribute the two first prizes of an amount of 600 American dollars each, in the categories of Acousmatic music and Mixed media. Carlsbad Composition Competition

The Carlsbad Music Festival, in partnership with ArtPower at UC San Diego, announces its eighth annual Composition Competition with a prize of $3,000 to write a new piece for MacArthur “Genius” Grant winner and Artistic Director of ICE, flutist Claire Chase. The Festival and ArtPower seek to commission a new piece for solo flute with or without electronics for Chase from a highly original, creative, and compelling composer age 35 or under (born after 1/1/1977). The winner will be selected by Chase and Festival Director, Matt McBane. The winning composition will be premiered by Chase at the 10th annual Carlsbad Music Festival in September 2013. The $3,000 prize includes the commission fee and a travel stipend for the Carlsbad Music Festival concert, free room during residency, and a professional recording of the premiere.
