175 East concerts

175 East announce their first concerts of 2010 in Christchurch and Auckland. The concerts include the world premieres of works by New Zealand composers Alexandra Hay, Samuel Holloway, Dylan Lardelli, Chris Watson and Alex Wolken.

The ensemble is joined by guest guitarist Dylan Lardelli who performs in his own new composition, commissioned by 175 East with funding from Creative New Zealand.

The concerts will be preceded by solo guitar improvisations by Greg Malcolm (Christchurch) and Nigel Gavin (Auckland).

Call for Scores 2 – ACL Special Event, October 2010

In October 2010, the Japanese Federation of Composers will hold an ACL Special Event in Tokyo. (The next full ACLFestival will take place in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2011). CANZ will submit scores for consideration for performance at the Special Event. A further Call for Scores have been issued, and scores in the following categories are welcomed:

1) Chamber music for string quartet and Japanese instruments, with 8 maximum performers and 15 minutes of maximum duration. The concert will be held on 5th October at So-gaku-do Hall in Ueno, Tokyo.

2) Works for Japanese instrument(s) – from solo to big ensemble, with 15 minutes of maximum duration. Arrangement of pieces originally written for Chinese & other folk instruments are acceptable. The concert will be held on 6th October at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space.

Call for Scores 1 – ACL Special Event, October 2010

In October 2010, the Japanese Federation of Composers will hold an ACL Special Event in Tokyo. (The next full ACLFestival will take place in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2011). CANZ will submit scores for consideration for performance at the Special Event. The following Calls for Scores have been issued, and scores in the following categories are welcomed:

1) The Festival’s opening concert (on 1 October 2010) will feature orchestral works with voice. The duration of these pieces can be within 3 to 15 minutes. For example, it can be an opera aria or a song with orchestra, etc. If the composer/ACL section can send a singer to the festival to perform the piece, JFC will cover two nights of accommodation for the singer.

2) Orchestral works up to 15 minutes in duration (standard orchestra: 3333/4331/T+3/Hp/14-12-10-8-6). Theconcert will be given by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra at Bunkyo Civic Main hall on 3 October 2010. A selected composer must have some experience in conducting professional orchestra as the composer will be asked to conduct his/her own piece in this concert.

3) Piano pieces for children (solo or 4 hands; within 3 minutes). The pieces must be easy enough for elementary school children to perform. Playing inside the piano is prohibited. The organizer prefers a composer to perform the piece by himself/herself. In case of a 4-hand piece, the composer shall perform the 2nd part. The concert will be held at Bunkyo Civic Small Hall on 3 October 2010.
