Weekend of NZ music in Wellington

A series of events featuring new music in Welington:

Thursday 24 May: 6pm Hunter Council Chamber, VUW
Launch of a new Waiteata score by Lyell Cresswell, and a performance of his complete solo piano works by Stephen de Pledge.

Friday 25 May: 1.10pm Adam Concert Room, NZSM
A concert of solo piano repertoire, including new works by Cresswell, Lardelli and Norris

• 6.30pm Michael Fowler Centre
NZSO perform New Zealand music, including a new work by Eve de Castro-Robinson, and John Psathas’s first Saxophone Concerto

• 8pm and during the rest of the week, except Monday @ Te Whaea
Contemporary dance to NZ works, including some new works by James Dunlop

Myriad choral concerts
Also look out for separate concerts by Wellington Youth Choir, Wellington members of Tower Voices, and Baroque Voices during the weekend

David Farquhar (1928-2007)

David Farquhar passed away on Tuesday, 8 April, in Wellington. Farquhar has been one of New Zealand’s most significant composers and music educators, and leaves behind a legacy of compositions. In addition, Farquhar was also instrumental in forming the Composers Foundation of New Zealand – which has since become CANZ.

For those who are able to attend, his funeral will be held at Old St. Paul’s, Murphy Street at 4pm on May 12 followed by a reception at the Adam Concert Room at the New Zealand School of Music.
