Call for Works: The Auricle

The Auricle sonic arts gallery is currently calling for proposals from sound artists/artists working with sound for its inaugural gallery programme for 2014. Situated in Central Christchurch, this artist run space has been established by the Cantabrian Society of Sonic Artists (CSSA) with funding from the Creative Industries Support Fund and Creative New Zealand and is the South Island’s only dedicated sonic arts gallery.

As a small artist-run gallery (4m x 6m – see plan), The Auricle is suitable for individual or small group shows. It is currently applying for funding to install an ambisonic surround system, but in the interim can offer artists stereo (and possibly quad) playback, video screening and an Apple Mac Mini Server. It will assist with the install of sound works and endeavour to accommodate the technical requirements of exhibiting artists as much as it can, but any equipment it is unable to source and extra set up costs will need to be covered by the artist’s funding.

The Auricle supports and promotes all its exhibitions through local and international media, as well as a launch event at the space. Every exhibition will be accompanied by a specially curated list of wines matched to it at The Auricle’s wine and sound bar downstairs, which is the first of its kind in the world.

While the call for submissions is ongoing, we are encouraging artists who wish to be considered for the first part of the year’s programme to contact us by 11th December 2013. All submissions should be made to the CSSA’s curatorial panel at exhibit@auricle.org.nz.
