Franco Donatoni Competition for Young Composers

Composers of any nationality, born after 1st January 1982, are eligible to participate in the selection by submitting one (or more) composition(s) for an instrumental ensemble of between 5 and 12 performers by 10th January 2018.

An international jury will select by 15th February 2018 three compositions that will be performed by Divertimento Ensemble in Milan on 29th March within the 2018 Rondò concert season.

The three selected composers will then be asked to write a new composition for soprano, baritone and ensemble, whose duration must be between 8 and 12 minutes; the three new compositions will be performed during the 2019 Rondò concert season, on the occasion of the fifth edition of the ‘Franco Donatoni’ International Meeting for Young Composers. The selected composers (who will have delivered score and parts within the deadline foreseen by the rules) will take part in the rehearsals in Milan and will work in close contact with the musicians of the ensemble and the singers.

RULES

1. Composers of any nationality, born after 1st January 1982, are eligible to participate in the selection to take part in the ‘Franco Donatoni’ International Meeting for Young Composers. Each applicant may submit one (or more) composition(s) for an instrumental ensemble of between 5 and 12 performers.

2. All applicants should submit by 10th January 2018 the following online form for each score submitted:

In the enrollment form you’ll be asked to attach:
– the score/scores;
– a copy of an ID document.
After filling out the form, you will be addressed to the PayPal page to pay the enrollment fee of € 30 for each score submitted (this fee will only be reimbursed in case the ‘International Meeting’ is cancelled).
Should the PayPal payment not be possible, you may proceed to bank transfer as follows:

You’ll then be asked to send copy of the money transfer to idea@divertimentoensemble.it.

3. Original scores as well as scores that have already been published and/or performed are both eligible for submission. They should not be anonymous. If possible, they should be accompanied with a recording of the performance.

4. An international jury of five composers (Franck Bedrossian, Sandro Gorli, Mauro Lanza, Fabien Lévy andGabriele Manca) will select by 15th February 2018 three composers who will be invited to take part in the International Meeting. The selected composers will be personally informed, and the selection will also be announced on IDEA’s website by 16th February 2018.

5. The three chosen scores will be performed during Divertimento Ensemble’s 2018 Rondò concert season on March 29th, in Milan.

6. Each of the three selected composers will furthermore be invited to write a 8-12 minutes composition for soprano, baritono and ensemble with words by the Italian poet and writer Pier Paolo Pasolini. The score and the parts must be delivered by 31st December 2018.

7. The three new works will be performed by Divertimento Ensemble in 2019 in Milan, on the occasion of the fifth edition of the ‘Franco Donatoni’ International Meeting for Young Composers, within Divertimento Ensemble’s 2019 Rondò concert season.

8. The three selected composers will take part in the rehearsals of their new composition, working in close contact with musicians and singers. Each composer will be entitled to a reimbursement of Euro 1,000 gross, for travel, board and lodging expenses incurred.

9. Each applicant, by submitting his/her application to participate in the International Meeting, agrees unconditionally to be bound by these rules.

Mise-en Music Festival 2018

ensemble mise-en is thrilled to announce the call for scores for the MISE-EN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2018! The festival has featured more than 30 pieces each year since 2014.

In order to participate, all selected composers are required to attend the festival. Selected composers will have the chance to collaborate with ensemble mise-en as well as other guest ensembles. This is a unique opportunity to share your work with not only a New York City audience, but also with visiting musicians and composers from around the world.

In 2018, two of the selected composers will also receive a residency opportunity at MISE-EN_PLACE Bushwick during the festival (June 27-30).

The guidelines for the submissions:

1. Applicants may be of any nationality and age.
2. Selected composers must be present at the festival (June 27-30, 2018) in New York City.
3. You may only send one piece per category. Please note that multiple submissions are welcome, but each must be submitted as a separate entity.
4. Those composers chosen to write new works (CATEGORY #4) will be notified by January 1st, 2018. All other composers chosen to participate in the festival will be notified by February 28th, 2018.

Torre Della Quarda – 2018

The composition competition “Torre della Quarda” is an international event; it will be a key element of Festival Internazionale di Musica di Savona and it will contribute to enrich an artistic proposal which has reached in 2018 its sixth edition.

The principal objective of the competition is to give support to the composition of new musical pieces and to promote the creativity in the musical field. Our hope is to bring the best emerging talent of composition from all over the world to Savona.

The participation will be open to competitors from all countries, without limits of age, aesthetic trends and compositional styles. Our aim is to stimulate a dynamic relationship between an active audience and authors sensitive to creative innovation. The winners will receive their awards in a special ceremony during the Festival and their compositions will be played as concerts, parts of the Festival itself.

A further aim of the competition is to act as a significant occasion of cross interaction, overcoming generational and geographical divides. Different generations of composers will have the opportunity to meet and compare their various perspectives. The same will happen between musical schools of different origins, born from different cultures but sharing the universal language of sound.

The candidates for the participation in the competition must pay a fee, under title of a donation, as a reimbursement of expenses (not refundable) of:
Euros 15 for section 1 (chamber music)
Euros 35 for section 2 (orchestra)

CALL FOR SCORES “RISUONANZE 2018”

Associazione Culturale TKE is calling for pieces to be performed at the “Risuonanze 2018 – incontri di nuove musiche” Festival, which will take place in Friuli Venezia Giulia region – Italy.

The Call is open to composers of any nationality and age.

Pieces should be written or the specified instruments and chamber groups; use of tape and/or electronics is not allowed.

The submitted works should not have been premiered in any public performance in Italy; if selected, these works will be presented as “world premieres” or “Italian premieres”.

Works of any aesthetic and stylistic direction, not longer than 6 minutes in duration may be submitted.

All music performed in the Festival will be radio-broadcast and professionally recorded; composers will be given a copy of the recording of their works.

18 Euros (non-refundable) must be payed via bank transfer or PayPal as a donation for contribution to costs; this amount allows to submit 1 to 6 different works.

Festival “Risuonanze 2018” is based on the direct relationship between composers and audience, so composers attending the performances are much appreciated. In that case, there is no refund for travel and lodging fees.

Associazione Culturale TKE may select one or more pieces in each category; it may also decide not to choose any composition.

Australian and New Zealand Viola Society Viola Composition Competition 2017

Entries are invited for the 2017 ANZVS Viola Composition Competition.

Aim: To promote composition and performance of new viola works in Australia and New Zealand.

Closing dates for all 2017 Divisions: 2 August 2017

Conditions of Entry:

  1. The composer must be a resident or citizen of Australia or New Zealand
  2. Divisions. There are two age divisions:
    Student: Under 18 years old as of 31 July 2017
    Open: 18 years old or over as of 31 July 2017
    Categories: (Both divisions have two categories)
    Composers may submit one entry in each category:
    Viola Solo Category: Viola Solo (unaccompanied)
    Viola Ensemble Category: Two or more violas
    (only viola ensembles – no other instrument allowed)
  3. Pieces are to be up to five minutes duration.
  4. The composition must indicate metronome markings and duration.
  5. The composition must not have been previously performed in public, or previously published, nor may it be a transcription in part or whole ofanother work that has been previously published or performed.
  6. Each composition including score and parts, is to be submitted electronically including a soundfile and entry form. Email a request for the official entry form and detailed guide to Olwyn Green: cogreen@actrix.co.nz with the heading: ANZVS Viola Comp Entry Form Request
  7. The manuscript must be easily legible when printed on A4 portrait sheets with consideration given to convenient page turns (if needed) for the performer. The composer must be identified on the manuscript itself by a nom-de-plume to ensure anonymity.
  8. Judging: ANZVS has appointed a panel of three judges with a range of experience in composition and performance on the viola. The panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  9. Prizes for each division:
    Student: $250 in prize money for each category
    (Solo & Ensemble) to be distributed at the judges’ discretion.
    Open: $500 in prize money for each category
    (Solo & Ensemble) to be distributed at the judges’ discretion.
    Special prizes: Up to $100 to be awarded at the judges’ discretion.
    The judges reserve the right not to award a prize or modify the amount of any prize.
  10. The winning, highly commended compositions and entries from composers who attend the viola days will then be performed in the workshop and awards session:
    September 3rd, 9:00–10:30 am at the 44th International Viola Congress in Wellington
  11. Results will be published in the issue of the ANZVS Journal after all the prizes have been awarded.
  12. Manuscripts and photocopies will be retained to be used in workshops at the congress. At all times copyright remains with the composer.

Call for scores – NZ Harp Duo Composition Competition

The New Zealand Harp Duo are pleased to announce a competition for a new composition for two concert harps.
Two first prizes are offered, one for each category.

Call for Scores: ACL Special Event Japan

The Asian Music Festival (AMF) 2017 in Japan will be held on November 2 and 3, 2017 in Tokyo, with two days of events aimed at providing enjoyment for a broad variety of audiences, composers and musicians on the theme ”Prayer”

Eligibility

1. Each entrant is allowed to submit one work only.

2. The work must be in only one category from the following list:

a) Chamber orchestra “Conductors are Composers”

Maximum of 15 performers from the following instruments: 1fl, 1ob, 1cl, 1bsn, 2hn, 1tpt, 1tbn, 1hp, perc(2 performers), 2vln, 1vla, 1vc, 1cb.

The maximum duration is 15 minutes, in order to perform as many pieces as possible.

b) Chamber music

Chamber music of up to 12 minutes, for 5 performers from the following instrumentation:

1fl, 1ob, 1cl, 1bsn, 1hn, 2vln,1vla, 1vc, 1 shakuhachi, 1shamisen and 1koto.

c) Electroacoustic music

Electroacoustic work of up to 10 minutes. (2 channel speaker)

Composer must operate the computer by her/himself at the concert on
3rd November.

3．The score, along with the title of the work, the composer’s name in English on the cover and the following information (a–k) must be submitted. The information should be written either in Japanese or in English and, where applicable, Chinese names should include the equivalent Chinese ideographs.

Tesla Quartet Call for Scores 2016

The Tesla Quartet is pleased to announce its inaugural Call for Scores. Composers are encouraged to submit completed works for string quartet for consideration, with the winning quartet receiving two performances in the spring of 2017. Any composer is eligible regardless of age, nationality, sex, color, creed, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or veteran status. The composition must be written for string quartet (2 violins, viola, cello) and must have a duration between 5 and 20 minutes.

The selection will be made using a blind evaluation process. All submissions will go to a dedicated email address, teslacallforscores@gmail.com, which will be monitored by an assistant who will transfer all the anonymous scores to the members of Tesla Quartet for review. An anonymous call prevents against any bias while selecting the work. Our decision will be made purely on quality of the music and not personal connections we may have with composers.

The winning work will receive two performances in the spring of 2017:
