ManiFeste In Vivo Théâtre Workshops 2018

ManiFeste, in particular the academy, is a moment of privileged encounters among different protagonists in the world of live performance. This year, the focus is on theater with two very different projects led by two major players in French theater today: Daniel Jeanneteau and Joris Lacoste.
For these special projects, young composers are introduced to the artistic and educational teams a few months prior to the workshop in June to begin preparations.

Educational Advisors: Daniel Jeanneteau, director and IRCAM computer music designers

The director Daniel Jeanneteau offers 3 young composers the opportunity to create a collective performance working on a sonic scenography for the Iliad, materializing the poem’s extreme violence. This sonic stage design, purely electronic, is nourished by contributions from the 3 young composers using IRCAM software to transform and spatialize the sound.

An initial work session for the 3 selected composers, Daniel Jeanneteau, and the IRCAM team will be held in Paris from Tuesday, February 6 through Thursday, February 8, 2018.

Applicants must be born after January 1, 1986.

Composers cannot take part in the composition workshops more than two consecutive years. They can, however, take part in all the academy’s activities as auditors.

Prerequisites (for projects with electronics): Applicants must have intermediary-level knowledge of programming in Max or Live and use the software on a regular basis. For Max, applicants should have followed the beginner’s level Max course or provide proof of equivalent knowledge of the Max tutorials 1 -22, Data tutorials 1 – 5, MIDI tutorials 1 – 5, and MSP tutorials 1 – 31.

3rd Composition Competition Fellegara 2017

Associazione Musica Aperta is pleased to announce the Third Edition of the International Composition Competition Vittorio Fellegara. The proposal of the competition arose from the commitment of a Committee of musicians, students and admirers of the composer in order to promote initiatives aimed at rewarding a production of new chamber music. The 2017 edition is devoted to classic piano Trio (piano, violin and cello), an ensemble with a great and ancient tradition, encouraging composers to reinvent its potential in which musical languages of the twentieth century lead convincingly to suitable results for listening. Musica Aperta strongly hopes that the initiative can once again arouse the best creations in musicians today.

REGULATIONS

Art. 1
Associazione Musica Aperta, under the patronage of City of Bergamo, Teatro Donizetti, Donizetti Foundation, Bergamo Musica Festival, University of Bergamo, “Donizetti” Conservatory of Bergamo, MIA Foundation, announces the Third Edition of International Composition Competition Vittorio Fellegara.

Art. 2
The 2017 competition is devoted to compositions for classic Trio (piano, violin and cello). No form of amplification or live electronics is allowed.

Art. 3
The competition will accept compositions by musicians of any nationality and of any age, also previously performed, provided that they are neither composed before 2008, nor given to a publisher in any form, or released on the Internet. Compositions must be sent anonymously as explained below.

Art. 4
The duration of the composition must be between 5 and 12 minutes.

impuls International Composition Competition

impuls promotes and supports young composers not only within its Academy, but also through the impuls Composition Competition.

impuls commissions up to 6 new works for ensemble every second year from young composers selected by a jury. Subsequently these composers are invited to take part in the impuls Composition Workshop in Vienna and Graz – where their new works are collectively rehearsed and discussed extensively with musicians of world-class ensembles such as Klangforum Wien – as well as to the premiere of their new pieces within the impuls Academy and Festival in Graz.

impuls also intends to support the composers´ works beyond that through recordings respectively broadcasting and additional concerts.

The current call runs from May 31st to October 31st, 2016.

Call for Scores – Risuonanze 2017

Associazione Culturale TKE is calling for pieces to be performed at the “Risuonanze 2017 – incontri di nuove musiche” Festival, which will take place early June, 2017, in Friuli Venezia Giulia region – Italy (for the previous
edition results: http://www.risuonanze.it/calls/results2016.html#ENGLISH).

The Call is open to composers of any nationality and age.

Pieces should be written for solo piano, or solo violin, or solo flute [C Flute, Piccolo, G Alto flute], or solo trombone, or solo voice [mezzo-soprano], or voice [mezzo-soprano] and piano, or two flutists, or two violins, or flute and piano; use of tape and/or electronics is not allowed.

The submitted works should not have been premiered in any public performance in Italy; if selected, these works will be presented as “world premieres” or “Italian premieres”.

Works of any aesthetic and stylistic direction, not longer than 6 minutes in duration may be submitted.

All music performed in the Festival will be radio-broadcast and professionally recorded; composers will be given a copy of the recording of their works.

15 Euros (non-refundable) must be payed via bank transfer or PayPal as a donation for contribution to costs; this amount allows to submit 1 to 6 different works.

Festival “Risuonanze 2017” is based on the direct relationship between composers and audience, so composers attending the performances are much appreciated. In that case, there is no refund for travel and lodging fees.

Associazione Culturale TKE may select one or more pieces in each category; it may also decide not to choose any composition.

Live! International Call for Scores – mdi ensemble

Mdi ensemble, in collaboration with Associazione per lo Studio e la Promozione della Musica Contemporanea – ASPMC and Associazione MusicAdesso of Milan, in the framework of SoW – Sound of Wander 2016, is pleased to announce its first international call for scores. The aim is to select three to six works written by composers under 35 to be performed on the 20th of December in Milan, in occasion of the last concert of SoW’s season (special guest: Dmitri Kourliandski).

Compositions (max 2 for each applicant) must be scored for chamber ensemble (2-7 players without conductor) for any of the following instruments:

– flute (piccolo, in C, alto flute, bass flute)
– clarinet (piccolo, in A, in Bb, bass clarinet)
– violin
– viola
– cello
– piano
– percussions (1 player)
If the score requires instruments/objects other than the ones listed above (little percussion instruments, gadgets, etc.), composers must provide them to the ensemble in time for rehearsals; otherwise, the ensemble could decide not to perform the piece.

Electronics and/or amplification are not allowed.

Modern Body Festival 2016 – Call for Projects

About Modern Body Festival:

What exactly is the ‘modern body’? We are inclined to think of our bodies as limited to what is contained within our own skin, but technology, philosophy, spirituality, religion, and science all challenge this idea. Modern Body Festival (MBF), an initiative organized by artists / makers / performers Stephanie Pan and Stelios Manousakis in The Hague, the Netherlands, strives to examine the nature of our current existence, as it were, through the perspective of the ‘modern body’. Our second edition, Modern Body Festival 2016: I/WE/THEY, explores the social body; how we exist and belong in today’s globalized society. For this edition, we collaborate with cutting-edge Taiwanese architecture platform Dezact, to create a 5-day event made up of workshops, exhibitions, symposia and performances.
Theme: I/WE/THEY

For this year’s edition we expand our reach beyond the physical body to the social body, and explore the cultural borders of a networked world. We are particularly interested in the effects of architecture, technology and digital communication, as they are fundamentally transforming the way we exist as a society, culture, species. We focus on identity and community: how we interface with I/WE/THEY. Where do the limits of the self extend and where do the social bodies of group and community begin? How do we understand and position ourselves as individuals, while still feeling a sense of belonging and connection to an expanding global community? How do we exist, identify, and interact?
What we are looking for

Our 2016 edition will present finished and commissioned works filling the spectrum of intermediality, seeking the modern body within the new worlds that emerge when different artforms intersect, collide, and modulate each other. We are looking for finished, or near-finished, works that resonate with this year’s theme. We are very open about discipline and format. We welcome works operating in or between architecture, sculpture, installation, video art, performance art, bio art, interactive and participatory art, music and sound art, dance, theater, circus, objects, environments, performances, walks, processions… – anything is possible!
When/where:

The works will be presented in the beginning of December in The Hague, the Netherlands, as part of the Modern Body Festival showcase, and will also be featured on our website and press releases.

Open call for projects

The 2016 Salvatore Martirano Memorial Composition Award

Eligibility

Any composer, regardless of age or nationality is eligible. Previous winners, faculty, and currently-enrolled students at the University of Illinois are ineligible for the competition.

Awards

First Prize cash award of $1000 and second prize cash award of $500 plus performances by the Illinois Modern Ensemble in September of 2016 on the 20th Anniversary Martirano Award Concert at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of the University of Illinois. Additional awards and performances may be given at the discretion of the judges.

Judges

A panel of judges consisting of international composers and University of Illinois music composition faculty members will select the winning compositions. The winning composers are expected to attend the 20th anniversary award concert and reception, and will be responsible for their transportation costs (the competition will provide lodging and some meals). The winning composers will assume full responsibility for providing adequate performance materials upon request.

Guidelines

1. Medium: Full scores of any style or aesthetic direction for 1-15 performers (including vocalists) may be submitted. Works for electronics and/or mixed media (including video), with or without instruments and voices, are eligible.

2. Duration: 20 minutes maximum

3. Limit: One entry per composer

4. Entry fee: A non-refundable entry fee of twenty US dollars (20.00 USD) is paid online at the time of submission. All major credit cards are accepted.

5. Anonymous Submission: The composer’s name must not appear on the score or in any accompanying materials submitted online.

Entries must be submitted and paid for online by Friday, April 15, 2016 11:59PM CST (23:59 GMT-0600).

Call for Scores: ACL Conference and Festival, Vietnam 2016

CANZ members are invited to submit works for consideration for performance at the 34th ACL International Festival and Conference in Vietnam, 12 – 18 October, 2016. The festival will be held in Hanoi capital and Vinh Yen city (Vinh Phuc province).

Each entrant is allowed to submit one work only from one of the listed categories.
In any category, playing inside the piano, or any kind of preparation of the piano, is prohibited.
Works written in the last four years are encouraged.
Entries are due by Friday 22 April (see below for details).

Keuris Composers Contest

The Keuris Competition invites composers of all ages and nationalities to participate in the 2nd Keuris Composers Contest with self-made compositions for the youth. The compositions should be challenging, but at the same time accessible, nowadays and playable by young talented amateur players. Deadline February 18^th 2016.

There will be two categories:
1) clarinet, cello and piano
2) youth symphony orchestra

The Opera Factory Trust is pleased to offer a compositional contest for a short chamber opera.

Entries close on Monday 18th January 2016.

The competition is for New Zealand composers (New Zealand citizens or permanent residents) and is offered in three categories:
